Comparing GeneratePress Alternatives Based on Most Crucial Parameters
People try to find alternatives because;
- They are dissatisfied with their current WordPress theme
- In their point of view, an alternative theme might offer more personal autonomy
- An alternative theme offers more features and control than the theme they are currently using.
Every WordPress theme has its own Pros and Cons. Some are fast while others may have top notch customization options.
Some themes offer more free content, while other theme developers offer great customer support to their premium customers.
It simply means every theme is best at doing something!
Some users may find it challenging to work with GeneratePress at the beginning. Since a little bit of CSS coding is required here and there, if you’ve thought of giving an elegant look to your website.
I wouldn’t ever say that GeneratePress is the best amongst all. But, let us just compare and understand.
Alternative WordPress Theme | GeneratePress Alternative For |
---|---|
Ocean WP & Blocksy | More Options Available in Free Theme |
Neve & Kadence | Speed |
Divi & Thrive | Customization |
WP Astra | Documentation |
Genesis Pro | Support |
Schema Theme | Schema |
GroundWP | Free block theme for FSE |
Divi | Starter Sites |
The above parameters imply that these themes are the best in some features and offer other features at a reasonable level.
For example, if you are running an e-commerce website that has plenty of products. The most important thing you need is SPEED. Let’s just say that you need some more options to build the store’s header and footer.
Then Neve and Kadence are 2 GeneratePress alternatives that offer similar speeds like GeneratePress with header and footer builder in their free versions.
OceanWP & Blocksy [More Options Available In Free Version]
Apart from Divi, Thrive, and Genesis, all the other themes mentioned in this article have a free version.
WP Astra, Kadence theme, Neve, Blocksy Pro, and Schema have free versions to try. Most users download the free version, and if they are satisfied with the product, they opt for the pro ones.
If you wanted to know which themes offer more options and features in their free version, then OceanWP and Blocksy would fit this parameter well.
Blocksy pro offers multiple premium modules to take your website to the next level.
Blocksy
A lightning-fast and feature-rich WordPress theme. Built by two friends, Sergiu Radu and Andrei Glingeanu.
The reason – why they built Blocksy WordPress theme?
Some of the WordPress themes were good but too slow, some were fast but without the right options.
With striking features and functionalities this GeneratePress alternative theme is lightweight and comes with multiple customization options. In fact the customizer also offers you a dark mode switch.
Now where do you get to see this in GeneratePress? Of course, it can be created using CSS, but that’s only for those who understand coding.
Blocksy theme customizer has been created bit differently from other WordPress themes. Each setting is located in the right place, so that you can intuitively reach your desired location.
If you compare Blocksy vs GeneratePress, Blocksy’s theme customizer even offers a header and footer builder for both, Desktop & Mobile Layouts.
Isn’t that awesome…
For tutorial websites and E-Commerce sites that mandatorily require a sidebar. Blocksy has also provided Mobile Header builder, that offers an Off Canvas Panel.
With 6 Widget Areas, a section for Socials, and finally an entire footer bottom for Copyright; Blocksy gives an advanced footer builder to play with.
When it comes to Sidebar and Widgets, Blocksy offers single click button for Sticky Sidebar and Separate Widgets under the sidebar option.
This is not seen with GeneratePress. In fact you will need to either rely on adding a code manually or applying a plugin to achieve sticky sidebar in GeneratePress theme.
Other features offered by Blocksy theme are;
- Multiple Header Styles
- Built in Search System
- Supports Page Builders and WooCommerce
- Enable Lazy Loading with single click
- Highly Responsive
- Five Archive Layouts
- Four Page Layouts
- Two WooCommerce gallery styles, etc.
- White label feature in Blocksy pro agency plan
Blocksy vs GeneratePress
Blocksy is built with the most modern web technologies like React, Webpack, Babel, and PHP version 7. It is specifically created keeping Gutenberg in mind.
Although, it does support page builders like Elementor and Beaver Builder.
Unlike GeneratePress, you get a visual Header and Footer Builder to make your site look exactly how you wanted.
Plus, the free version of Blocksy also allows you to remove Footer Copyright credits.
Blocksy gives you options to create and save different Color Palettes. You get to Stick Headers, Sidebars, and with a create Separate Widgets in Sidebar with a single click.
In terms of Archives Pages – Blocksy gives you 5 Archive Layouts with various other settings for Card Options and Pagination.
You can easily create custom layout for blog page, using Blocksy content blocks.
By installing 1 single plugin, called Blocksy Companion; you get 5 free extensions. Cookie Consent, Newsletter Subscribe Form, Product Review Custom Post, Trending Posts, and additional series of Stunning Widgets.
Blocksy pro for 1 year starts at $49 and the lifetime bundle starts from $149.
OceanWP
OceanWP is an entirely free theme.
The company only charges if you want to bundle some Premium Extensions and Pro Demo Sites with the theme.
It covers everything from Colors to Typography, settings for Top Bar, Header, Mobile Menu, Footer, and even Sidebar.
The moment you install this theme, it feels like you’ve purchased a premium theme. There are lots of features and options available.
OceanWP is a well-balanced theme and offers integration capabilities with page builders like Elementor.
For beginners, OceanWP also offers a website setup wizard. This wizard helps you set up your website and lets you select from free demo sites.
The header and footer have quite some options to build a professional looking website.
Another good part available with this theme, is the footer copyright credits. Unlike GeneratePress, the free version of OceanWP lets you remove copyright message. If you want to learn how to remove GeneratePress footer copyright message, have a look at remove powered by GeneratePress article.
This theme is completely free and you can use it on how many ever sites you wanted to. The best part of using OceanWP theme, is that it offers lots of features even in its free version.
Some of the other features of OceanWP are;
- Lightweight with no Bloatware
- Loads Fast (not as fast as GeneratePress)
- Comes with Import/Export options
- Supports Page Builders and WooCommerce
- Create and Save Templates in My Library
- Lots of Scripts, Styles, and Site Demos included with Ocean Extra (free plugin)
OceanWP vs GeneratePress
I would note a few things where OceanWP is better than GeneratePress;
First of all, you get to stick Headers and Sidebars. This needs a plugin or manual CSS code even in GeneratePress premium.
The updated version of OceanWP bring you lots of Menu Icons to use anywhere on your site. For displaying social icons and contact info, you also get a Top Bar above the primary header.
Unlike GeneratePress, OceanWP offers customizable options for Pagination.
A new feature called Elementor Template is added to your admin menu items, for creating Elementor-style Mega Menus, without installing Elementor plugin.
OceanWP offers two different Breadcrumb styles for Pages and Posts. Plus, you can also create Breadcrumbs over Background Images to style Page Headers.
Neve & Kadence [Speed – As Fast As GeneratePress]
In this parameter, I have found Neve and Kadence to top the list. We installed both these themes on fresh websites without any plugins and ran the speed test using GTmetrix.
Performance statistics of Neve WordPress theme | Performance statistics of Kadence WordPress theme | Performance statistics of GeneratePress WordPress theme |
---|---|---|
Performance- 100% | Performance- 100% | Performance- 100% |
Fully load time- 867ms | Fully load time- 844ms | Fully load time- 745ms |
Size- 34KB (theme size) | Size- 45.5KB (theme size) | Size- 30.8KB |
Total no. of requests- 7 | Total no. of requests- 10 | Total no. of requests- 7 |
Both, Neve and Kadence themes show very close statistics to the ones seen under GeneratePress.
Loading times of Neve and Kadence are close to 850ms, whereas loading time of a GeneratePress website clocks at 745ms. The difference isn’t that much.
Apart from calculating their speed metrics against GeneratePress, both Neve and Kadence are highly customizable themes with lots of options.
Neve
Neve, the WordPress theme from Themeisle, focusses on speed and performance. This results in a lightweight theme that helps your website load very fast.
It also offers a neat theme customizer with pretty much everything you need to build your site. Let’s have a look at the Neve Theme Customizer.
The Layout option lets you set different layouts and custom widths for the entire site, Archives page, Single Post, and even Sidebars.
Moreover, you get advanced options to set the Content/Sidebar on various parts of your site.
It also offers your favorite Header and Footer Builder to make beautiful headers and footers for any type of website.
A similar type of Footer builder also comes with this Theme.
If you wanted more options, Neve Pro offers;

Besides that, Neve comes with different Demo sites. Use it if you wish to directly import the one that fits your requirement, saving you lots of time.

Neve vs GeneratePress
In case of speed, I would say Neve is the perfect GeneratePress alternative
Talking about Starter Sites and seamless integration with Page Builders, GeneratePress offers a total of 56 demo sites, from which 14 are built using Elementor, 6 of them are made by Beaver Builder, and the rest can be used with Gutenberg.
Meaning, GeneratePress only integrates with Elementor and Beaver Builder.
On the other hand, Neve supports popular page builders like Gutenberg, Elementor, Beaver Builder, Brizy, Divi, etc. Offering a total of 410 Neve Starter Sites. 121 sites are made using Gutenberg, 122 sites are built using Elementor, 48 via Brizy, 99 using Beaver Builder, 10 from Divi, and the remaining 10 via Thrive.
GeneratePress premium has lifetime plan of $249, whereas Neve Personal License for lifetime is roughly about $200 with Header, Blog and Elementor Booster.
Unlike GeneratePress premium, Neve pro gives you Header & Footer Builder and also gives you total settings for creating Form Fields with Labels.
With the Neve WordPress theme, you get Base Color and Dark Mode color palette with a Color Blind Filter that helps you check how your website will look to people with different levels of color blindness. This is not seen in GeneratePress.
Kadence WP
Kadence is another WordPress theme that is as Fast as GeneratePress. It is a great GeneratePress alternative.
Its not only fast but also offers you lots of customization options to play with. For starters, you get a drag and drop Header Builder and Footer Builder.
With 200,000+ active installs of the Kadence WordPress theme and 5 star ratings; this theme is worth a try.
You get beautiful Starter Templates with a range of Global Fonts and Color Palettes to try on each template, before importing one.
Kadence theme lets you import a Template (Single Page) or an Entire Site. Choose what best fits your requirement.
Integrates with popular plugins like Gutenberg, Elementor, Beaver Builder, WooCommerce, Tutor LMS, Lifter LMS, LearnDash, Restrict Content Pro, and BB Press.
The Kadence Theme Customizer comes with lots of features for creating best looking site.
When it comes to look and elegance, there are two best things I like about Kadence.
First, it offers 3 professional Global Color Palettes and 8 different pre-made color sets that help you in achieving the perfect color combination for your site.
Second, you get the best font pairing done for you. Just chose the one that would look great with the type of content you put on your site.
Aren’t these the best options anyone would ask for? Now, you don’t even need to be a designer to understand what would look great for your audience.
Apply any pre-made color set with a paired font, to achieve that professional look you’ve always wanted.
Moreover, a Kadence bundle gives you access to Kadence blocks pro as well.
Other Features of Kadence WordPress Theme
- Header and Footer Builder
- Kadence pro comes with header addon adding 19 elements to the header builder
- Transparent & Sticky Header available
- Removable Footer Copyright credits
- In depth Site Layout settings
- Single click Kadence Sticky Sidebar with last widget sticky
- Fine-tuned Button settings
- Multiple 404 Page, Archive Page, and Blog Post Layout styles

Kadence vs GeneratePress
Apart from the features mentioned above, I have personally experienced the following points, while using both the themes.
With Kadence Pro, you get Header Addon, Header/Footer Scripts, Hooked Elements for extra widgets, etc. Whereas, you’d need to add extra plugin, if you were to use GeneratePress.
Kadence free theme gives you two HTML areas in the Header Builder. Whereas, Kadence Pro offers more HTML areas with 19 different Header Addons to choose.
You do not get a Ajax Add To Cart on Single Product Page with GeneratePress premium as well. Whereas, Kadence Pro offers that and even gives you Auto Open Side Cart, when your customers add any product to their shopping cart.
Add Custom Content and Custom Backgrounds in the Dropdowns of Mega Menus with the Kadence pro theme. But with GeneratePress, you will need to code everything manually or use a plugin to achieve this kind of look.
Kadence and GeneratePress have their own page builders called, Kadence Blocks and GenerateBlocks.
The free version of Kadence Blocks comes with 12 unique blocks and that of GenerateBlocks only offers you 6 of them.
The premium versions of both these multipurpose themes are priced at $59 for 1 year subscription with unlimited site licenses.
Kadence Bundles offer Kadence Pro theme and other KadenceWP products.

Divi & Thrive Themes [Customization]
When it comes to customization, everyone wants a great level of customization from their theme. Disappointingly not many themes can get that done up to the users level.
Customizing your WordPress website is achieved through themes. A theme dictates the design of your website, Meaning, the way your site should look (overall) and the way it should display content.
This includes text, images, videos, layout structure, headers, footers, sidebars, fonts, colors, widths, spacing, sizing, etc.
If you are looking for GeneratePress alternatives that are top-notch in terms of customization and design options, then my suggestion is to go for Divi or Thrive Themes.
Both Divi and Thrive are full-fledged themes with page building capabilities.
Divi
Divi is a high-end theme from Elegant Themes. It is so popular that more than 2.5 million websites are powered by the Divi Theme.
Because of its versatility, multi-purpose nature, and powerful drag-and-drop builder; Divi has become a hot favorite theme of many Bloggers, Online Marketers, Service Providers, Non-Profits, Educators and even people who want to create Web Stores.
This theme is famous for its powerful Customization Features and the User Experience it delivers. It is 100% front-end theme with a visual builder. Meaning customize your website until you are satisfied.
Divi’s drag-and-drop page builder is a visual editor giving you WYSIWYG experience.
It comes with 46 different modules and 16 WooCommerce Modules.
Create any type of custom page or post by using the Divi Theme Builder and give a beautiful look to your website.
You can set the entire theme according to your requirement, using Divi Theme Options.
For more detailed information about the theme, check out my Divi theme review article. I have mentioned every small detail about this theme, in that post.
Create Global Header, Global Footer, Custom Header, and Custom Footer using the Divi builder. Plus, you also get Sticky Options to stick your website’s header/footer. This is available under the scroll effects, within the Divi builder.
If it were to be GeneratePress, you’d have to use a plugin or manually code CSS. Just like how we create Sticky Header, likewise, you can create sticky floating footer bar in GeneratePress as well.
Other Features of Divi Theme
- Increased Layouts with Portfolio post types
- Advanced Module Design settings
- Theme builder for custom templates
- Magic Color Manager with Harmonious Color Palette
- Extend Custom Style throughout the page by single click
- Multiple design options
- Lots of Typography options and settings
- Fullwidth Map module to add Google Map in Divi theme
- New Footer Layout and Widget Styles

- Lifetime bundle comes with lot of value
- Comes with a visual editor
Divi vs GeneratePress
Unlike GeneratePress, Divi is a premium theme and there is no free theme to try. But, you can try the live demo of every pre-made Divi website.
Divi is very user friendly and has much more features than GeneratePress.
You don’t get any page builder with GeneratePress. But, Divi gives you a visual builder called, the Divi Builder.
Both, Divi and GeneratePress offer a yearly and a lifetime plan. GeneratePress yearly plan is charged at $59 and that of Divi is $89. Whereas, the lifetime plan of GeneratePress and Divi are both priced at $249.
For $249 Elegant Themes give you Divi Theme, Divi Page Builder, Extra Theme (for blogging and publications), Monarch (social media sharing plugin), and Bloom (email Opt-In plugin).
With Divi you get a live chat and remote access support as well. GeneratePress offers you a quick but forum-based support.
Thrive
What’s included in the Thrive suite membership?
Thrive themes is a suite of website tools mainly focusing on conversions. They are the best and make amazing tools.
With the Thrive Suite membership you get;

- Evergreen Countdown Campaigns – Thrive Ultimatum
- Build & Sell Premium Online Courses – Thrive Apprentice
Now that’s a lot of tools, I say.
You can literally start a full fledged online business using Thrive themes.
I like Thrive over GeneratePress because, you never need a page builder. I mean if you are thin on budget, alone Thrive Architect can create a fully functional website for you, without the need for any other theme.
Thrive Theme Builder and Thrive Architect are the most used amongst all others Thrive tools. The Thrive Theme Builder comes with two Companion Themes, Shapeshift and Ommi. Specifically released for faster performance and better website designs.
Think of Thrive theme builder as an Elementor Booster.
You can now visually create headers/footers, single posts, archive pages, and even 404 pages.
Thrive Architect on the other hand, is a great page builder. Allowing you to create beautiful landing pages, include testimonials, countdown timers, etc.
When it comes to customization, it is a great GeneratePress alternative. As you get everything with drag-and-drop page building capabilities. On the marketing side they give you advanced features like Pop-Ups and A/B Split Testing.
Key Features of Thrive

- Highly intuitive drag-and-drop visual builder supporting responsive design
- Choose and add from 150+ Built-In blocks anywhere on the site

Thrive Themes vs GeneratePress
Thrive themes are highly responsive and offer almost 50 elements to create a fully functional beautiful website. Out of which 12 elements are completely focused on website conversions.
Thrive suite helps you to create Call-to-Action Buttons, Call-to-action boxes, Styled Lists, Testimonials, Credit Card Icons, Lead Gen Forms, Content Boxes, Animated Countdown Timers, Guarantee Boxes, Pricing Tables; and easily convert your website visitors into customers.
Thrive Themes provide the best WordPress Table of Contents which is easily customizable.
The latest version of Thrive Architect comes with 6000+ material icons and 1500 Font Awesome Icons in three different styles; light, regular, and solid.
With GeneratePress, you would need to download additional plugins to achieve all of the above.
When it comes to pricing, the cost of Thrive (entire suite) is $149 Quarterly and $299 yearly. It is much more than what GeneratePress is priced at, but you get a lot of tools, features, and value from the product.
Astra Theme [Documentation]
A theme is not complete without its official documentation. Creating a new theme and having the right documentation is the way to go.
You don’t want to purchase a theme and then struggle to set it up.
I would say WP Astra theme is the perfect GeneratePress alternative, in terms of documentation. There are tons of categories created on their official blog and multiple videos even on YouTube.
To my knowledge, Astra is a great WordPress theme with lots of other features. Some features in the Astra Pro module are not even there in GeneratePress.
However, both GeneratePress and Astra are lightweight themes.
Astra
Astra is a fast and multi-purpose theme. Created similarly like GeneratePress, Astra also offers a modular approach. Switch on the functions you need, and leave the rest; this heavily reduces bloatware.
The Astra Official Documentation is well organized with multiple categories. All articles are well annotated with proper screenshots, helping you in every step possible.
Categories like Installation, Customizer Settings, Starter Templates, and Troubleshooting have even got on-loop GIF images or video tutorials, to give you a better understanding on the topic.
If you want to make your website look different with premium features, you will need Custom Codes; and Astra’s got 50 articles under that category.
Brainstorm Force has created WPAstra and they have got their official YouTube channel.
If you are video-based learner, then go check out their YouTube channel. Its got dozens of content on WordPress, Elementor, and other Brainstorm Force’s plugins like Schema Pro and Convert Pro.
This theme comes in two versions – the free version and a premium version. The free version offers lesser features like limited site templates, layouts, header/footer addons. You don’t get granular control over Typography and Colors.
Its okay if you are just starting out, but keep in mind that you will need some basic CSS knowledge.
Astra Pro features
- Multiple header designs
- More footer addons
- Mega menu
- Granular control over typography and control
- Supports Google AMP
- Sticky footer bar
- White label feature for website design agencies
- Unlimited site licenses
If you want to understand every feature of this theme, then check out my Astra theme review article.
Note:- WooCommerce users can use the Astra Bulk Edit plugin to makes changes in bulk.
GeneratePress vs Astra
One thing I liked about Astra, is the Blog Pro Module. It gives amazing options like Grid Layout, Masonry Layout, Date Box and even Author Box. On the other hand, I’ve had to manually add author box in GeneratePress theme.
Header builder and Footer builder with Astra Pro opens up even more addons for making your site look better.
With Astra theme you get 200+ Pro Starter Templates created from page builders like Elementor, Beaver Builder, Brizy and Gutenberg.
Unlike GeneratePress, Astra Pro has more WooCommerce features like Dropdown Shopping Cart, Built-in Product Quick View, Off-Canvas WooCommerce Sidebar, Indicator for Sale Products, and multiple layout controls for individual products.
For more information, check out my Astra free vs pro vs bundles post.
Astra Pro for 1 year is priced at $47, whereas GeneratePress is charged at $59 for a year. Astra also offers Essential and Growth Bundle for agencies and affiliate marketers. Plus, lifetime bundle is also available.
Genesis Pro From StudioPress [Support]
What is a premium theme without support?
Nothing…
Just imagine, you buying a new theme and end up with no support, no forums, zero documentation. How frustrating would that be?
I know, how it feels. Spending money on a theme which delivers up to its word and has a great support system is the key forward for theme creators and its premium customers.
I would give a thumbs-up in terms of Support, to Genesis i.e., StudioPress. In the WordPress market they are the best in this parameter. Period.

With Genesis Pro you get the Genesis Framework and all the Genesis Premium Child Themes.

Schema Pro – GeneratePress Alternative for Schema Markup
A schema is nothing but structured data that tells the Search Engine what content is available on your web pages.
Web pages can be marked up with number of items like logo, article, local business, breadcrumbs, FAQs, HOW TOs, etc. All of these items make up the Schema Markup (Structured Data of your Web Page).
Starting a website, putting content and having a theme which doesn’t support schema markup is just like trying to swim against the current. Search Engines will never understand the type of web pages your site has. Thus, your site will not rank on the SERPs.
That is the reason, website owners, developers, marketers, bloggers, and even web store owners; all look out for a theme which has great schema markup built into it.
GeneratePress is properly SEO optimized and the most appropriate GeneratePress alternative in this parameter is the Schema theme.
About Schema Theme
The Schema Theme is specifically made to tell the search engines that below the header and above the footer, everything is CONTENT. Meaning, schema is developed as such that tells the search engine every nook and cranny of your website.
Schema locates the blog title, sidebar, breadcrumbs, H1, other headings, main content, featured image, social media shares, reviews, etc.
SEO friendliness is the most powerful advantage you get after buying the Schema theme. The schema markup is so deeply integrated that your content will start showing in Rich Snippets of Google.
The theme has got a customizer from where you customize your entire website.
Highlights of Schema Pro theme
- Speed with SEO optimization
- Two pre-made homepage designs
- Two header layouts (thick & slim)
- Clean code with powerful theme customizer
- Rich snippets support

- Seamless integration with Elementor
- Built-in review system with Schema markup

- Lots of shortcodes available that work with Rich Snippets
- Built-in social media sharing functionality
- There are 350+ icons to make your pages look even more rich and professional
GeneratePress vs Schema
There are no doubts in Schema being the next alternative to GeneratePress in terms of Schema Markup.
But, when it comes to a comparison, we should be looking at all the other parameters as well.
GeneratePress comes in top 5 WordPress themes in terms of downloads and usage. Whereas, Schema isn’t anywhere nearby.
GeneratePress is much faster than Schema.
Schema offers Background Patterns, Lightbox for images, Ad management module, 1-click switch to Async JavaScript, and extra widgets.
You don’t get any of these with GeneratePress. With GeneratePress you can create Blocks, Hooks, Layouts, and Headers via the Elements module. This isn’t possible with Schema. Unless you download a code plugin.
GeneratePress costs you $59 for 1 year subscription, and you can use the theme on 500 websites. Whereas, Schema Pro for 1 year subscription will cost you $39.
GroundWP – A GeneratePress Alternative Block Theme
GroundWP by Imtiaz Rayhan, is a lightweight block theme specifically created to support Full Site Editing (FSE) on WordPress.
Apart from the classic themes, block themes have a better design approach, offer complete flexibility for customization, and are designed keeping the WordPress future in mind.
For now, the availability of block themes are limited. But, from the selected few, I like GroundWP for its over simiplified theme structure, ease to use aspects, and highly familiar learning curve.
GroundWP is completely block based offering 15+ patterns and still counting, supports JSON imports for global site-wide changes, and comes with a minimalistic approach to give the design power in your hands.

Divi [GeneratePress Alternative For Starter Sites]
If you would ask me, what are the reasons to invest on a premium theme?
I would answer, speed, customization, security and availability of starter sites.
Yes, Starter Sites. It is a huge add-on an individual gets after purchasing a premium theme.
Starter Sites help you get your site up and running in no time. There isn’t any need to manually start creating your site from scratch. Not everyone is a colors or fonts or layouts expert.
Why wouldn’t you use a ready-made starter site, which has been specifically built by experts keeping conversions in mind?
I would…
